Welcome to Ski Himalaya

Gulmarg promo video, nicely filmed

If you're thinking of skiing anywhere in the world during the northern winter come join us at the Himalaya's first major alpine resort. Gulmarg's Poma-designed 1330 vertical meter gondola (that's more vertical than anything in the USA) provides access to probably the last frontier of skiing - the Himalayas.

The combination of skiing and mountaineering is the finest of all sports - Sir Arnold Lunn

Ski touring, sometimes called ski de randonnée, ski mountaineering, and alpine touring. Back country skiing and ski mountaineering are perhaps the most exhilarating ways to enjoy mountains in winter.

these photos, more than 300, are not mine, this is a collection from the web over many years

to the Lady and all the jumping stars: bravo!

today the skiers and snowboarders were even in numbers. but the skiers were more active. before xmas the snowboarders outnumbered the skiers on the kikker, so the skiers are catching up fast and I like it. let's see at the end of the season or next winter 2008.

James Bond 007 Run

the local kids call it this way. this is no ski run. this is a walking path. no one around. just u and iMe. pure solitude in the middle of a huge ski area. no one bothers you.

this is the advantage of being a local kid, knowing the tips and trikks and all the answers to all FAQ, unlike those who: Today I skied six resorts on my first Ski Utah Interconnect Adventure Tour (sorry Kent Hyden). or I met tourists they skied each day another ski station. yeah, they are damned to stay tourists for the rest of their lives, they know 100 different ski stations at the end of their lives, but they would not know of one single secret trail.

I fell in Love

many times in many years.
More freerides masegn falera.
I skied this freeride many years ago and it was love at first sight. So close to a huge ski area, on sunny weekends overcrowded, but here you are all on your own. Here you find inner peace.
Many freerides look scary, some are some are not, this one definitely is not. In good snow conditions, it's an easy freeride. There are no real dangers, as long as you know the way, unless you get lost, keep more to the left, to the right is a gully, cliff, canyon, that can end deadly and you end up in the Rhine and later on in the Atlantic Ocean.
one of my favourite freerides, a comfort zone freeride, beautiful mountain scenery around you, no steep hills to ski down, also suitable for average skiers, when the snow conditions are normal, but sometimes like yesterday, when the snow conditions were rather icy and choppy and ..., it looks easy, but it isn't, then it's not recommended. easy and not much danger around like avalanches, elephants and siberian tigers or falling big fat snowflakes.
The pictures are taken from 5 different rides down, at different days and in different time zones. You start here, on the right side of the photo, in the very distance you see the Masegn top station, the start is on the backside of the station:

and end up near this historic church:

and end here. What a church, see, isn't this nice?
In between it feels like and ski through this:

now you understand why I ski this down on and on again. Thank you for sharing my joy with you.
Mellow freeriding
Freeriding for many people means steep, steeper, ..., danger, adrenalin, fast pace. this is very true for winter stations like Chamonix, La Grave, Engelberg, Verbier. And there you can live this reputation. If you drink a Red Bull 4 breakfast, go there. My ski station Flims Laax Falera also has steep rides, but more so we abound in easy freerides, that compare more to a love song by ... (here please add your lovesong you were listening to when you were kissed for the fist time) than a fast rokk song by Metallica or the Ramones. I ski slowly, I breath the clean and cold air, the glittering of the snowflakes blinds my eyes, I smell the fir trees and I hum: *Oh Tannenbaum*, I stop and listen to the stillness. after my freerides you are mellow, not hyped up. You end up in a homey tea room, in einer kleinen Konditorei, and you (if you are S...) order a Linzertorte, oder ein Stück bündner Birnenbrot, or a slice of bread with dried pears from the Grisons.
you want peace, come here.
