Is snowboarding in decline?
quotes from the web:
If that's what showboarding is about then it doesn't belong in the Olympics
Showboarding is such a dopey activity
what I heard was that showboarding is being hurt by 1. newbie skiers finding "modern" skis easier and less so by 2. snowboarders getting bored and trying a real sport, skiing.
Maybe U have a point there. I was in Saas Fee, allegedly boarder friendly and there didn't seem as many as usual. Yes, lots less blades this year.
One thing I did notice this year is that there are less showboarders out there. I think its going downhill fast.
in my two trips so far this year, especially in Switzerland i was amazed by the number of "new" boarders, I'm almost sure that boarders out numbered skiiers in Flims/Laax a few weeks back...............we especially noticed the huge increase in the number of young girls boarding.

1955 CHEVY of Two-Lane BlackTop
Richard Ruth built three 55 Chevys for the movie Two-Lane Blacktop. (He can be seen as the Needles gas station mechanic wearing the "Glendale Speedshop" t-shirt.) One was the "camera car". This car was used for all the interior shots. The other two were filmed driving or racing. The Chevy was based on a 1956 Chevy that Richard Ruth had been street racing at the time. The 55 in Two-Lane had a big block 454 with aluminum heads, a tunnel ram intake and dual 4bbl Holley carbs. The transmission was a Munci M-22 "rockcrusher' feeding the power back to an Oldsmobile rear axle with 4.88-1 gears. Ruth fitted the car with a straight axle and four wheel disc brakes. The tilt front end was fiberglass as were the doors and deck lid. Ruth also used plexiglass for the side windows that slid back to front instead of rolling up and down. The wheels were American mags 200-s, 15x6 front and 15x10 rear. They used M&H Racemaster drag slicks for racing and Firestone grand prix rain tires for street use. In the movie the car is said to run "well into the 12's. However later in the movie he beats "Mr. Bardahl". I heard the 55 was capable of low 10's at over 130mph! Rumor has it they actually filmed the famed rollover for the end of the movie then cut it out in favor of the movie burnimg up.
TWO-LANE BLACKTOP / AMERICAN GRAFFITI CONNECTION
Gary Kurtz was involved with both movies. He took the 55 from Two-Lane and made it into the black 55 used in Graffiti! They replaced the "Grump-Lump hood scoop with a smaller one. The American mags gave way to chromed steel wheels. If you look close enough you can see when they mounted the front bumper it had to be raised a few inches to bolt up to the frame rails Richard Ruth installed for the straight front axle.
Two Lane BlackTop
The Inspiration To my Blog comes from .... my favorite Road Movie, directed by Monte Hellman. Plot Summary forTwo-Lane Blacktop (1971)
The Driver and The Mechanic are two car freaks driving a 1955 Chevy throughout the southwestern U.S. looking for other cars to race. They are totally dedicated to The Car and converse with each other only when necessary. At a gas station, The Driver and The Mechanic, along with a girl who has ingratiated herself into their world, meet G.T.O., a middle-aged man who fabricates stories about his exploits. It is decided to have a race to Washington, D.C., where the winner will get the loser's car. Along the way, the race and the highway metaphorically depict the lives of these contestants as they struggle to their destination.IMDb movie comment: a Road Movie Cut to the Core, Taylor and Wilson hustle the back roads with their '55 Chevy hot rod, get caught up in cross-country race against wacko Oates running solo in a spanking new GTO. That's pretty much all you need to know. I happened to catch this the night after I saw The Gumball Rally - the other Great Cross Country Movie - and I hadn't seen either one in 20 years. This is harsher and bleaker, not necessarily better or worse, than Gumball; in fact, I had (incorrectly) remembered this as being in black and white which says something about the film. To describe Taylor and Wilson as taciturn would be fair, maybe if these non-actors had more to say things wouldn't work. But they do just fine exuding a moody intensity in the lead roles and the film as a whole captures the real world in true 60's style.

Flyers :: Werbe Schreiben an Skischulen
The fastest sportsman on earth, who reaches his speed without external power, is called Harry Egger. The Austrian stepped into a new dimension when he reached the speed of 248km/h at the World Championships for speed skiers in Les Arcs in the French Alps.
winter2005
Was ist morgen gefragter?
Small Print, Big Talk: (written in 1996!!) The decline and fall of snowboarding: It's been big, there's no denying it. Written off as a gimmick, grown into a cult and now embraced in the mainstream, snowboarding was predicted to equal skiing in terms of participation by the year 2000 (by the most over-zealous), and then to march on to conquer the world of snow sports. Skiing would be a quaint relic, abandoned back in the twentieth century. While other snow sports have come and gone, snowboarding has successfully established itself. But its exploitation in the marketing campaigns of big corporations and prominence in the pages of style-conscious magazines could spell the end of this growth. The first decade of the next millenium may see a long, slow decline in the popularity of snowboarding. There's no doubt that skiing needed snowboarding when the sport really started to take off a decade back. The downhill experience had become perceived as bland, boring and hidebound. A highly visible youth rebellion was just what the doctor ordered (along with high speed lifts, by lucky coincidence) to reinvigorate snow sports. There were a few years of confusion and consternation before skiing began to fight back. Ironically, the fight took the form of futile attempts to co-opt the fashions and attitudes of snowboarding. The answer to the decline in the popularity of snow sports was not and is not about snowboarding. It was to make winter sports fun again with a variety of new ideas and approaches. In the 1990's most skiers are no longer satisfied with slapping their skis on and eating mediocre cafeteria food. They want a host of activities to enjoy by day and alot going on after dark. They also want to have more fun on skis, and they finally got what they want. Conventional racing skis have been replaced by the easier and more fun carving skis, while a host of other new sliding opportunities have been born or re-energized (ski touring, skiboarding, snowshoeing, tubing, etc.). More varied terrain has also played a role, with the fun parks created for snowboarders increasingly open to all forms of sliding.Snowboarding has lost its veneer as the wild and fun sector of winter sports, and new barbarians are at the gate. Written in 1996!! Link>>Bored by Boarding: The decline and fall of snowboarding
